An annual, wall-to-wall record of how much land was opened by coal mining across South Sumatra between 2016 and 2025, and how much of it grew back. Built to supply a baseline that post-mining land planning currently lacks.

Coal haul roads in South Sumatra: a summary of the PERHAPI PD Sumsel policy brief
From 1 January 2026 South Sumatra bars coal trucks from public roads and requires dedicated haul roads instead. The brief behind this summary argues that the policy is right in principle and that its economic outcome depends almost entirely on whether the alternative logistics are ready. This is a short account of its reasoning and its recommendations.
